How to forward newsletters into Readwise Reader

Readwise Reader is the best place to read newsletters — once they get there. This is the complete, current setup: get your subscriptions out of Gmail and into Reader automatically, then deal with the part nobody mentions, which is what happens when 25 of them pile up.

Step 1 — Find your Reader email address

In Reader, open Settings → Email. You'll see a personal address like [email protected] (and a separate one for auto-forwarded mail). Anything sent there shows up in your Reader Feed.

Step 2 — Point your newsletters at it

Two ways, depending on the newsletter:

  • New subscriptions: just sign up with your Reader email directly. The newsletter lands in Reader from day one.
  • Existing subscriptions in Gmail: create a filter so they auto-forward. In Gmail, search for the sender, then Filter messages like these → Forward to your Reader address. (Gmail requires you to verify a forwarding address once under Settings → Forwarding and POP/IMAP before it appears in the filter menu.)

Set up a filter per sender, or one broad filter on a label like Newsletters if you already sort them.

Step 3 — Confirm it's working

Send yourself a test, or wait for the next issue. It should appear in your Reader Feed, not your Library — Reader treats subscriptions as a feed you triage. From there you can tag, highlight, or send to your other devices as usual.

The part the setup guides skip: now you have a new firehose

Routing newsletters into Reader fixes where they live. It does nothing about how many there are. Most people who do this end up with a Feed of 20–40 unread issues a week and the same skim-none problem they had in Gmail — just in a nicer app.

That's the gap we fill. Instead of opening Reader to a wall of unread, you get one weekly brief: your own newsletters, AI-ranked by what's worth your time this week, each with a one-line "why," delivered into Reader as a single document. Read the top few, archive the rest without opening them.

It's read-later-native on purpose — the brief lands where you already read, not in the inbox you just escaped. Free tier: up to 10 newsletters, one weekly brief, into Reader.

Forwarding vs. a brief — when each makes sense

  • Under ~10 newsletters, you read most of them: plain forwarding into Reader is great. Keep it.
  • More than that, and the Feed has become a guilt pile: add the weekly brief on top so something does the ranking for you.
