How to send newsletters to the Matter app
Matter is one of the nicest places to actually read a newsletter — the catch is getting your subscriptions in there instead of Gmail. There are three ways, and they take about ten minutes total. Then the honest part: what to do when 25 issues a week land in your Matter queue instead of your inbox.
Step 1 — Find your Matter email address
Matter gives every account its own subscription address. Open the app and tap your
profile — your handle is there, and your address is
your_handle@subs.getmatter.com. Anything a publisher sends to that address
shows up in Matter, bypassing your inbox entirely.
Step 2 — Point your newsletters at it
Depending on the newsletter:
- New subscriptions: sign up with your
@subs.getmatter.comaddress directly. The newsletter lands in Matter from the first issue. - Existing subscriptions: don't unsubscribe — open the newsletter's "manage preferences" page and change your email to the Matter address. Same subscription, new destination.
- Can't change the address? Set up a Gmail filter instead: search for the sender, then Filter messages like these → Forward to your Matter address. (Gmail makes you verify a forwarding address once under Settings → Forwarding and POP/IMAP before it appears in the filter menu.)
Or: connect Gmail from the app
On iOS, Matter can also connect to your Gmail account directly and fetch the newsletters already arriving there — a few taps, no filters. It's the fastest route if your subscriptions all live in one Gmail account and you'd rather not touch each sender. The tradeoff is that the newsletters still hit your inbox first; the Matter address keeps them out of email altogether.
The part the setup guides skip: Matter is now the firehose
Routing newsletters into Matter fixes where they live, not how many there are. If you follow 15–25 newsletters, you've moved the pile from Gmail to a prettier queue — and the skim-or-guilt problem moves with it.
That's the gap we fill. Instead of opening Matter to a wall of unread issues, you get one weekly brief: your own newsletters, AI-ranked by what's worth your time this week, each with a one-line "why," delivered into Matter as a single document. Read the top few, archive the rest without opening them.
It's read-later-native on purpose — the brief lands where you already read, not in the inbox you just escaped. Free tier: up to 10 newsletters, one weekly brief, into Matter.
Forwarding vs. a brief — when each makes sense
- Under ~10 newsletters, you read most of them: the Matter address alone is a clean setup. Keep it.
- More than that, and the queue has become a guilt pile: add the weekly brief on top so something does the ranking for you.
