How to send Substack newsletters to Readwise Reader

Substack lands in your inbox; you'd rather read it in Readwise Reader with everything else. Here are three ways to route it there — fastest first.

Option 1 — Subscribe with your Reader email (2 minutes)

Readwise Reader gives every account its own email address for newsletters. Open Reader and find it under your account's email / newsletter settings — it's an @readwise.io address unique to you. Then use it two ways:

  1. New subscriptions: when you sign up for a Substack, enter that Reader address instead of your personal email. Every issue lands straight in Reader's feed.
  2. Existing subscriptions: change the delivery email in the Substack's subscription settings, or set a Gmail filter that forwards anything from the publication to your Reader address.

Full issues arrive in Reader, tagged as newsletters, ready to read or triage — and out of your inbox for good.

Option 2 — Add the Substack RSS feed (1 minute per publication)

Every Substack has a public RSS feed. Take the publication's URL and add /feed — for example https://stratechery.substack.com/feed. In Reader, open the Feed tab, choose Add feed, and paste that URL. New posts appear automatically, full-text, with no email involved. This is the cleanest option when you want a publication in Reader but never want it touching your inbox.

Option 3 — Get one ranked weekly brief in Reader instead

Routing every Substack into Reader fixes the "wrong app" problem but not the volume one: follow ten of them and Reader fills with more than you'll read. The alternative is one weekly brief — all your newsletters read and ranked, the two or three worth your time surfaced first with a one-line reason, the rest listed below — delivered into Reader (or Matter, or your Kindle).

The difference: forwarding and RSS move the firehose into Reader. A brief decides what's worth your time first, so you open Reader to a short decision instead of a backlog. The free tier covers up to 10 newsletters into one destination, one brief a week — no card, nothing to install.

Which option should you use?

  • One or two Substacks: the RSS feed (Option 2) is cleanest — no inbox, no setup beyond a paste.
  • Everything in one place: your Reader email (Option 1) routes every newsletter, not just Substack.
  • Ten-plus and a growing unread pile: the weekly brief ranks them so you read less, better.
